Job Summary
The Head of Laboratory Science is responsible for overseeing the
efficient and accurate operation of all laboratory services within the
organization. This role includes managing laboratory staff, ensuring compliance
with health and safety standards, overseeing diagnostic testing, maintaining
laboratory equipment, and ensuring the quality and integrity of laboratory
results. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing patient care
by providing timely and accurate diagnostic information to clinicians and
medical professionals.
Key Responsibilities
· Oversee and manage laboratory operations to ensure high
standards of accuracy, reliability, and safety in testing.
· Supervise and coordinate activities of laboratory staff,
providing training, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
· Develop and implement laboratory policies, processes, and
quality control measures.
· Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory
equipment.
· Monitor the quality and accuracy of laboratory tests and
results.
· Research and implement new laboratory techniques and tests to
improve service delivery.
· Conduct regular performance reviews of laboratory staff to
identify training needs.
· Oversee laboratory safety protocols to ensure compliance with
biohazard regulations.
· Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify
potential hazards.
· Liaise with clinical teams to ensure that laboratory services
meet patient care requirements.
Collaborate
with other departments to provide accurate and timely diagnostic information.
Educational
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related
field; required.
· Master’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory
Management, or a related field; preferred.
· Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or equivalent
(e.g., ASCP, AMT).
· Certification in laboratory management or clinical laboratory
leadership is an advantage.
Experience
· Minimum of 7 years of experience in laboratory science, with at
least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role within a hospital or medical
facility setting.
· Demonstrated experience in implementing quality control programs
and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Required Skills
· Proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic
healthcare environment.
· Deep knowledge of laboratory testing procedures, quality control
processes, and equipment management.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective
interaction with staff, clinicians, and patients.
· Ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in
a fast-paced environment.
· Excellent time management skills to oversee daily operations
efficiently.
· In-depth understanding of healthcare regulations, accreditation
standards, and compliance requirements.
Salary – N300,000- N400,000
