Responsibilities

Details of Research Project:

The candidate’s research will focus on the biology and pathogenesis of paramyxoviruses using primary cell systems (e.g. Synvivio organ-on-chip models), organoids, and novel animal models including the development of iPSC-derived cell types and organoids using SeV-induced reprogramming. You will bring an organismal perspective to the molecular virology projects in the lab. You will also help in identifying viral and host determinants that modulate viral replication and pathogenesis coupled with the use of antivirals that target these determinants. You will apply his animal and organoid culture expertise to help various projects in the lab.

Technical Duties:

  • Develop and apply organoid culture systems to questions regarding paramyxoviruses replication, tropism and species restriction.
  • Use reverse genetics to generate paramyxoviruses with relevant mutations that allow for analysis of virus-host determinants.
  • Learn and teach small animal infection and analytical techniques to other members of the lab.
  • Partake in rotating lab responsibilities that contribute to a well-functioning lab.
  • Helping the PI write and obtain approvals for animal (IACUC) and relevant biosafety protocols (IBC).
  • Join in all relevant intellectual activities of the lab and department.
  • Write and publish results in a timely fashion.
