SALARY RANGE: $55,000 - $60,000 (dependent upon degree held at time of hire; opportunities for summer teaching may be available

Position Duties/Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor is responsible for functions related to teaching 15 hours of coursework, advising, and supporting various college initiatives. Faculty responsibilities include leading one departmental or college initiative and assisting with others as requested. College and Departmental Initiatives currently include Boots on the Ground Community Engagement Mentors, Ed Rising, Invest Adventure Club, Grant Writing, Unlock Education Regional Conference, and Impact on Education Regional Conference. Additionally, the assistant professor will perform the responsibilities of a site coordinator which includes the following roles: (1) the liaison between the university and school district, (2) participate in mentor teacher trainings and stakeholder meetings, and (3) coaching of teacher candidates and residents. 


The Assistant Professor will work closely with:  

  • Faculty members who teach early childhood or elementary content to create course curriculum that has continuity and scaffolding for candidates, 
  • Burton College of Education Accreditation Specialist for major assessment data collection and analysis requirements for national accreditation and state reporting. 
  • Team Lead for Site Coordinators, to be trained as a site coordinator. Site coordinators serve three major roles. They serve as (1) the liaison between the university and school district, (2) participate in mentor teacher trainings and stakeholder meetings, and (3) coaching of teacher candidates and residents.

Required/Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • Earned a doctorate degree in education at the time of appointment or currently enrolled in a nationally accredited doctoral program and in good academic standing to be completed within 2 years of date of hire. 
  • Valid Teaching License with certification in early childhood or elementary content areas 
  • Credentialed to teach literacy coursework with Science of Reading training, 18 graduate hours in curriculum and instruction with a focus on literacy, Reading Endorsement, or equivalent 
  • 3-to-5 years of early childhood or elementary classroom teaching experience 
  • Knowledge of and experience with Common Core State Standards or equivalent  
  • Experience working with high-quality curriculum  
  • Evidence of application of technology in the classroom 
  • Experience working with high needs students and/or traditionally underserved populations of students 
  • Experience with developing high-quality teachers/teacher candidates
  • Mentor Teacher Certified or willing to complete Mentor Teacher certification within first year employed.
  • Position requires in-person teaching on campus.

Preferred:   

  • Evidence of knowledge and implementation of Co-teaching, Providing Quality Verbal and Written Academic Feedback, and effective coaching practices 
  • Evidence in supporting teachers/teacher candidates with implementing high-quality curriculum 
  • Evidence of leadership in professional development  
  • Experience with data-driven instructional decision making 
  • Bilingual  
  • Dyslexia training 
  • University teaching experience 
  • Knowledge of standard requirements: Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC), Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching (LCET), Louisiana Teacher Preparation Competencies, and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) Standards, High Leverage Practices (HLP) 
  • Evidence of collaboration with stakeholders, such as students, teachers, districts/parishes.
