History:

The Nativity School is located in the heart of Rancho Santa Fe and opened its doors in September 1996 as an integral part of the Church of the Nativity. We are dedicated to providing a challenging educational environment, as well as developing character development and decision making skills nurtured in our Catholic values. Job Description:

The Nativity School is looking for a science teacher for grades 5-8. The 10-month position will begin August 5, 2025, and be up for continuation June 12, 2026. 


Responsibilities:

  • Provide science instruction in grades 5-8 
  • Plan and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning. 
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. 
  • Have the ability to teach and guide students in their Catholic faith development. 
  • Coordinate science lessons to align with the state’s Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
  • Incorporate technology to support and differentiate classroom instruction. 
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. 
  • Encourage and monitor student progress using data to adjust teaching strategies. 
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records. 
  • Communicate progress to students and parents regularly. 
  • Provide student supervision, to include during recess and/or lunch duty if needed. 
  • Participate in professional learning throughout the year. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the School. 
Requirements


Religious Qualifications:

  • Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
  • Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a clear California multiple or single subject teaching credential (preferred) 
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for the Diocese of San Diego is a condition of employment) 
  • Teaching experience 
  • Positive professional references and recommendations 

Work Experience:

  •  At least three years of work with diverse student learners in a classroom setting 
  • At least three years of classroom teaching experience in the area of science 
  • Familiar with STEM 

Physical Requirements:

To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:

  • Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
  • Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
  • Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
  • Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending
  • Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class
  • Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
